Running Indoors Vs. Outdoors

I personally LOVE to run outdoors and running in the rain is my favorite so maybe I am just a LITTLE weird.  But, there’s something about just taking off running outside that is so de-stressing and exhilarating for me.  I can find and absorb the beauty in almost any day, sunny or rainy.  Outdoor running is definitely my running of choice, but there are pros and cons to both.

Running Outdoors
Pros:
1.  I’ve already touched on the beautiful scenery you get to experience while running outdoors.  Just getting to enjoy the day and breathe some fresh air is a huge plus.
2.  I also like the “No Excuses” workout that it can bring.  If you get to your halfway-point and feel like quitting, guess what??  You still have to get back home.
3.  You can greatly vary your workouts by taking different paths each time, effectively combating boredom as well as adding hills and other aspects to your run.
4.  Also, running outdoors is completely free!  No huge equipment to buy and doesn’t waste electricity–Great for those who are going green.

Cons:
1.  The biggest con for many is that running on hard surfaces like the street or sidewalk can be hard on the joints.  (Easing into the sport by following a running schedule for beginners can help eliminate this concern)
2.  The weather if severe can inhibit your running.
3.  Plus, it’s not always easy to gauge your speed or distance when running outdoors.

Indoor/Treadmill Running
Pros:
1.  It’s generally easier on the joints. Most treadmills have cushioned decks that lessen the impact on your knees, hips, and ankles when running.
2.  No worry about the weather being too cold or too hot.  Running indoors can be performed year round regardless of the weather.
3.  You can get a good cardio workout all while watching your favorite show on TV.

Cons:
1.  You’re generally not getting as physically demanding of a workout while on the treadmill.
2.  You’re stuck in the same spot every time you run so you may get bored.
3.  Treadmills cost money, sometimes a lot, while running outdoors is free.

Running, either indoors or out, is very enjoyable and a great cardio workout.  A lot of people do both depending on their circumstances.

Estes Park, Colorado – Family Vacations on a Budget

One of our biggest issues when planning family vacations on a budget is deciding where we would like to go on vacation and finding somewhere we can afford.

Several years ago, we traveled to Estes Park, Colorado (http://estes-park.com/).  This was an amazing place to visit.  We rented a cabin at a good price with a full kitchen.  We prepared a few meals at our cabin and bought groceries for breakfast and snacks which is a great way to save for family vacations on a budget.  My favorite part of visiting Estes Park was the wildlife.  There were elk everywhere including right outside our cabin and in the town.

Estes Park is a main entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park (http://rockymountainnationalpark.com/).  The park is beautiful.  It is a great way to spend time enjoying your family and save money.  At the park, you can picnic, hike, or go for a scenic drive.  You will definitely want to spend time taking pictures.  Estes Park, CO, is a great place to go for family vacations on a budget.
